Order of Mistress Of The Art Of Death Books The Mistress of the Art of Death is a series of historical mystery novels by British novelist Ariana Franklin (Diana Norman). In this medieval era series, Dr. Vesuvia Adelia Rachel Ortese Aguilar is a short-tempered coroner who works for King Henry II in secret.   Mistress of the Art of Death deals largely with sexual violence. This is a topic that affects me, but it’s not one I shy away from. I want books about it to be written, read and discussed, as I believe that we have silenced survivors and swept the whole topic under the rug for long enough. However, perhaps because I wasn’t expecting to find.

A section of Mistresses is devoted to the great fallen women of literature, Anna Karenina, Hester Prynne, and Lara in Dr Zhivago. Even Jane Eyre herself, Abbott reminds us, only narrowly missed. The national bestselling hit hailed by the New York Times as a “vibrant medieval mystery [it] outdoes the competition.” In medieval Cambridge, England, Adelia, a female forensics expert, is summoned by King Henry II to investigate a series of gruesome murders that has wrongly implicated the Jewish population, yielding even more tragic results.

CSI meets The Canterbury Tales.. After an unexceptional debut (City of Shadows, ), Franklin hits commercial paydirt with this criminal investigation drama set in 12th-century by “doctor to the dead” Vesuvia Adelia Rachel Ortese Aguilar—Adelia for short—the trio also includes Simon of Naples (“agent, investigator, go-between, reconnoitrer, spy”) and Mansur, Adelia. 26 Apr - Explore 9beanrow's board "Mistresses of Malt" on Pinterest. There are definite rewards to rummaging around in charity shops and stumbling across books you have never heard of. I admit it- what attracted me to Ariana Franklin’s Mistress of the Art of Death was its cover, which recalls the vellum pages of a medieval manuscript and prominently displays a detail from MS 74 G38 fol.
